We help grow your historical wardrobe!
We are active re-enactors and manufacture tailor-made period-correct underwear and outer clothing, headgear and accessories for re-enactment and living history, theme wedding, party, museums, theater and film.
From the early Middle Ages, Eighty Years’ War, Napoleonic, Regency, Victorian, WWI, the ‘roaring twenties’ to after WWII.
In what we do, we make use of our extensive knowledge of historical clothing. Our knowledge comes from various sources: research into historical patterns, costumes in museums and paintings.
We, the tailors Yvette de Vries & Els van Leeuwen, are active reenactors. You will find us at the Battle of Waterloo (Quatre-Bras), in Bourtange (1742), the Historisch Festijn (first in Vorden, now in Doorn), in the Rijksmuseum (the Eighty Years’ War), the border village of Eijsden (WW 1 ) or at the Battle of Grolle. We supplement this with the knowledge and experience of people in our network such as historians, fellow reenactors and costume makers.
We put this knowledge into everything we make. We are also skilled in many needlework techniques such as embroidery, bobbin lace, sprang, tatting and more. Such a handmade style element makes your garment unique.
You are the focal point when designing your clothing. We discuss your depiction, which style elements and accessories are appropriate and how you would like it to look.
The clothing is custom made for you in our workshop. We are happy to take your measurements ourselves: in our studio, in the museum or at bivouac. It is also possible that we insert passing moments in the meantime. This way we ensure that your purchase is a good fit for you. View a number of references here.
Our products are finished by hand as standard, which gives your purchase a period-correct appearance. The further finishing is entirely up to you: do you want decoration in the form of embroidery, for example? Hand made lace? Or a tatting? Which can! This makes every Robes and Cloaks garment unique.
